I want to participate in a flash forward sometime this decade, but I don't know how you guys make flash games these days.

The same way everyone else makes flash games today: through the seven seas.

I imagine you just download your Flash version of choice and start learning Actionscript. Idk alot about it though. I might try and participate this year, we'll see.

And in the end

The love you take

Is equal to

The love you make

There is virtually no flash culture in the country where I live, so I don't think I'll be able to learn it.

Like what everyone above me said, first step is finding a copy of Flash. There are various places you could look but I'd say the Internet Archive is the most reliable, most people use Flash 8 but you can use any version, really. As for programming, I'd say start out with ActionScript 1 or 2, since they're the easiest to use. ActionScript 3 is more advanced but also a lot more complicated and probably not necessary (most classic Flash games like Alien Hominid were made in AS1/AS2.)

Also make sure to get familiar with the animation system of Flash. Flash and similar programs to it like Director are very timeline-based. For instance, frame 1 of the game could be a title screen, with a button in it that can take you to frame 2, which could be level 1 or something like that. You get what I mean. Flash's programming and animation aspects can be very intertwined so you should figure out how all that works before you get into programming. Some more advanced games just use 1 frame for the whole game and manipulate everything with code but I wouldn't recommend that if you're starting out.

Anyways that's about all I have to say, good luck!

Mate, we're in the era of YouTube tutorials and Reddit posts for the nichest thing. If there's a time to learn flash, it's now.
