I've been using CapCut for about four years now to make videos, but over the past year, it's gotten a lot harder to use because of all the new updates and subscription features, so I stopped using it a month ago.

I usually use Aseprite for creating my pixel art and animations, and I just want to look for an editing software that can help me add sound, effects, or just make my pixel animations look more professional overall.

It’s fun to see this in motion, its very expressive! As for an editing software, I have a friend who uses filmora and he really likes it. I think its free with a paid version with more features, could be worth looking into.

I have access to premier pro through my job, but outside of that, if I'm just organizing scenes and adding audio, Blender3D's video editing tab is actually pretty good for arranging clips.

And some time before that, I used Hitfilm Express. Outside of some filters locked behind a paywall, its a perfectly serviceable piece of software.

I have actually been meaning to try out the video editor in blender since its a program I already use. What job do you have that grants you premier pro? And I never heard of Hitfilm Express before, it sounds familiar enough that I might’ve come across it but its the one out of the 3 you mentioned I am not too aware of.

It's a video editing job for a local news station. And I used an older version of Hitfilm in the past; bare bones, but reliable for what I needed from it. I don't know if they've made any changes as of recent.

Vegas Pro 18 is my weapon of choice. I export the animation frames as .png sequences scene by scene, sometimes separated by layer groups so that I have more control over the composition in post, and put everything together in Vegas. Man, I really want to get back to animating one day. :')

iu_1487855_3702769.png Kdenlive is free, lightweight, and good enough for what you're asking for. It's simple to use. If you want something that might offer more but still being similar to kdenlive, check out iu_1487856_3702769.png vegas pro (which was THE goto indie video editor in the early days of YouTube to 2020. Now it has lost its spark in recent years). It's paid tho.

iu_1487857_3702769.png Davinci Resolve is offering much more than Kdenlive, but it's not as simple to use and requires some getting used to. But it's free and used in the industry, so I'd say that it's great to get used to this if you want to go far with this video stuff.

iu_1487858_3702769.png Blender has a video editor. In 5.0 which is almost here, also offers more direct way of adding effects to video clips in said editor. Only issue is that the editor is mostly for cutting and editing the visual stuff, but all you really can do to audio is cut it, and change its volume. So if you just want to add audio and not edit it, Blender will still be great!

I use Open Shot. It's open source and free. Also if you name your files for your frames properly it will let you import your individual frames as an image sequence so that you aren't compromising on quality by exporting each scene as a mov before even compiling them.

Am I too late here?

Well, if you're still searching, I use Davinci and it's pretty good, it's also where I record and edit all my voice-lines, and the fusion tab can be really good for compositing if you're into that sort of thing.

There's also Olive if you're the type of person who prefers open source stuff but that's very unstable now so use it at your own risk.

Great! So, I guess you'd be looking for more of a composition software right? There's Friction Graphics if you want something similar to After Effects, though I never tried it, I'd assume it has poor audio capabilities simply because the same can be said about after effects lol, so idk.

I kind of stand by davinci since it's a swiss army video editor, but it might depend on your specs... you can also always crack open the good old Vegas 13.

i would recommend shotcut, it´s got a lot of good features for editing, but windows movie maker works just fine too.
