Thoughts on early blender versions?

Lets just for thread sake, keep this only for 2.26 (2003) - 2.93 (2021). What did you think of the 2.x line of blender releases. Reason why I started at 2.26 was because it was the very first GPLv2 release of blender. And Everything up till 1.30 was IRIX/SGI workstations only.

Some people still swear to the 3.x line of releases, but for what reason would someone stick to 2.26-2.93? Any particular thoughts on these versions?

To jog your memory if you used these older versions, here's what they looked like:

2.30 (2003) --

2.80 (2019) --

You'll notice that blender really hasn't changed much from 2.80 in terms of UI. I've heard the UI used to be VERY convoluted up till then.

I started using Blender before 2.80 and yes, it was a fucking pain in the ass to navigate. I had to memorize a lot of counter-intuitive keybinds and I would often forget what keybind did what. I hated it. The streamlined GUI introduced in v 2.80 is one of the most or THE most important feature added in all of Blender's development history imo.

The earliest version of Blender I used was 2.49b.

It was ugly and primitive compared to Blender 4.0.

I think the newest version is in Beta now.

Old Blender was archaic as hell to use at the time. Iirc you had to right click to select stuff instead of left click.

I've used it as early as 2014 when 2.70-2.72 was the latest version.

But I was also a stupid kid during that era. My thoughts for early Blender is that it was a good option if you didn't have money. Now it's a great option during the modern era.

Was able to make this abomination thanks to it during that time.

And more scuffed shit
