Long story short, I was working on a test animation, then suddenly today, i got an error saying "Problems loading the scene, some files may be missing" and then all my frames were missing. i did everything I could do and still nothing. Fuck that shitty, buggy software up its ass.
Did you at least make back ups of the file before this?

Well I have saved my files on a certain file saving website, thou I have uninstalled OpenToonz, so it doesn't matter.
look for alternatives that have autosave features and also make backups of your work. blender has that feature and it saved me a lot of grief. power goes out, my file gets corrupted, i open blender, recover an autosave and re-save the file and its like nothing ever happened.
I think I'm late, but you could have tried viewing possible previous versions of files or folders by right-clicking them > Properties > Previous Versions. It's saved me progress on some projects in various programs.
Have you tried Tahoma2D? It's a fork of Opentoonz but I've found it to be a lot more stable. It also has an auto save feature so that could probably help you.

Tahoma2d was made by one of the people who worked on OpenToonz and decided to make their own software, basically.
It runs pretty well and has some neat features unlike OpenToonz. I'd give it a shot, although, the only quirk is that you have to download an FFmpeg extension in order to export animations in .mp4
The website will show you how if you search it up, but that's an extra step to take if that's what you're going for.
