Is uploading music to Spotify still worth it?

I uploaded music to Spotify back in 2024, but over time there was a lot of bureaucracy from the distributors and I didn't get anything for it in the end, plus I found out about the new distribution policies, from the content posted there, I was only curious to know if others also experienced this disappointment with Spotify as producers.

  • Flooding the algo with AI music
  • Running ads for ICE
  • The CEO, Daniel Ek, has made billions while many musicians, including big name ones, have gone underpaid
  • People are leaving Spotify in droves

Nah, fuck Spotify

At the same time, we're in an unstable internet ecosystem and where people will congregate to listen to music next is anyone's guess right now

Fr, there a guy with a channel called Venus Theory that explains really good how de royalties in Spotify turned into a gold mine for people with 1.000.000 bots making Ghost playlist with just IA slop, I have luck that no one put a IA slop on my Spotify profile that's would be really bad to get out of there.

Spotify is overpriced while musicians are underpaid (I agree with poster above), so no.

Also it fucks with pirates a lot, who potentially could meet your music in this streaming service and then actually buy a physical edition of your music, so they just hate their musicians.

I exist.

Pm me here I'm bored as fuck, also my discord: teh_snsqrs

Generally, unless you're a big name with a lot of listeners, it's probably not going to be worthwhile for you. Even then, I question the ethics of the company.

From what I've been made aware, Spotify will not actually dish out royalties to you unless you make above a certain threshold of listens. Smaller artists get fucked by this. The company also has problems with AI bots farming streams and fake bands soaking up listens. It's not a good environment.

If you're concerned about the company leadership, read this.

Venus Theory on YouTube has done some good work covering this topic as well. Personally I don't upload to Spotify anymore because I don't make any money from it. I had a good handful of people listening to my music casually on Spotify for a while--before the demonetization of 86% of the music--and I would have made about 5$ over the course of more than a year. That is a complete joke, not even enough for a payout.

Thanks for listening! :)
