Hello Newgrounds!

I'm a trained audio engineer and user of DAW software (like FL Studio). I can use several other DAWs as well (Ableton, Pro Tools, Reaper, Logic), and I've taken classes for things like advanced audio and electronic music production. I know just about every feature in FL, and I've been helping people learn it since I was literally in high school.

Ask me anything about FL Studio, audio engineering, music production, the music industry, and the like. I'll answer it to the best of my ability. No stupid questions!

Thanks for listening! :)

When you have so little to your name that you're struggling to offer compensation to people you'd like to work with, but want to get a project going with multiple people anyway, how would you proceed?

Honestly, the best thing you can do is simply reach out. Write emails periodically saying something like "Hey, I'm this person who does this thing, would you like to participate in [x]?" You don't really have any leverage if you don't think you have anything to offer, but the worst response you can get is a no. You're not gonna burn any bridges just by asking and following up a couple of times. Be honest about your situation and your interests.

And who knows! Maybe someone is feeling generous or they think your project sounds really cool.

Another thing you could think about is if you do have a specific project in mind, you can always apply for a grant. Then you have usable money to onboard someone.

Keep at it. From what I recall, your website looks pretty legit, your profile is rather impressive, and you have some really cool work under your belt. Depending on who you're after, I'd say your odds might be good regardless of your financial situation.

Thanks for listening! :)

Tell me all about your drums please. Do you have a favorite drum pack you like to use? Do you prefer patterns in the channel rack, FPC, Piano Roll, something else?

Typically my favorite drums to use are either miscellaneous audio samples or a VST called Monster Drums. I find the process of creating my own sorts of drum racks in a VST rather convoluted and unnecessarily limiting. I despise using beat patterns because that method doesn't facilitate off-grid sounds like flams, strums, or wonky grooves.

Generally my projects will have like one or two instances of Monster Drums loaded up as well as a bunch of tracks full of random audio drums sitting in the playlist. Occasionally there will be like, say, an orchestra hit sound that I specifically want from FLEX so I'll have that loaded up somewhere too. Sometimes with things like hihats, I'll load the audio sample up as an instrument so it will have a MIDI pattern; this is useful if I want to do some crazy pitchy stuff.
