June 6th was our first ever Low Poly Day on Newgrounds, a celebration of low polygon art and Y2K game-inspired music. The turnout was really impressive for a new event like this, ensuring we’ll be doing it again next year in June!

With no further ado, here are your winners:

🏆 Top Three Music

“The quirky rapping had taken me back to the days of playing Parappa, and the frenetic jazzy instrumental is oozing with early 2000s nostalgia. This will be a regular in my playlist!” - SubaBubba

3rd - $100

Runner-up

“A dronish electronic beat with a lot of variety sprinkled in to keep it interesting throughout its 6 minute length. Creating it on an obsolete DAW to more accurately capture the Y2K vibes deserves huge Kudos!” -SubaBubba

Thank you @TeraVex and @SupaBubba for music judging assistance!

Shout out to the VGA Y2K Collab!

Sharing good things about NG goes a long way to seeing more of what you want to see around here. I don’t think there was anything on the Internet in June that topped Low Poly Day, which makes it really encouraging to have events like this in the future.

Speaking of events, the annual NG Audio Deathmatch has begun. Thanks for reading!

The games' performance all around, and especially 500 Caliber Contract, was beyond what people would probably have expected from 3D games running in your browser.

Since this will be a yearly thing, I'm tempted to see how much you can push a 3D game playing not just from HTML, but from HTML on mobile. Back when Stepford ran the mobile game jam, I found out how to read a phone's motion sensors so the player can tilt the phone around to control the player's movement and used that in Sumo Surfer, which seemed like a good way to control a mobile 3D game. Since next year's Low Poly Day won't have the constraints of the mobile game jam it'll give a lot more time to explore what can be done with it. If anyone else wants to try it too, I posted source code from a Godot 3 project that I made to test out motion sensor controls that shows how to get the phone's sensor data into in-game variables that you can use, as well as JavaScript code if you want to use a different engine like Unity.
