AIM 2025 Results! 2025-07-30 00:37:56

The time has come to reveal the results for AIM 2025, which had the judges evaluating 95 tracks submitted by 81 different composers and producing a little over 6 hours' worth of music combined. 😮

Without further ado, here are the winners:

TOP 3

FIRST PLACE

This year's top entry is by a composer who might become synonymous with creating orchestral wintery landscapes, and it is for a good reason. This entry is a wonderful example of utilizing the entire art as inspiration for all aspects of production, composition, sound design and more.

Tundra Goddess by @Everratic (inspired by "Tundra goddess" by @themefinland)

SECOND PLACE

Our second place entry goes to show that sometimes, a rushed entry is still a great entry. A heavy-metal rock track with vivid lyrics and guitar that goes absolutely ham. What's not to love?

Black Forest Countess by @LD-W & @CasualBreather (inspired by "Lady of the Black pond" by @HappytoDraw)

THIRD PLACE

You know when someone paints a picture so realistically it looks like a photo at first glance? This entry feels like the musical equivalent of that where I personally forget that it uses acoustic instruments to create a beautiful, hard-hitting dance track. With hooks for days, it immerses you straight into its art inspiration.

Amor Fati by @SilynSounds (inspired by "- WIP / Experimental 12 -" by @Miloecute)

RUNNER-UPS

Here are this year's runner-ups!

Rooftop Dragon by @LD-W (inspired by "Rooftop Duel" by @HappytoDraw)

Onward, to Greener Pastures! by @Payton-Petkus (inspired by "“Onward, to greener pastures!”" by @Fab-FFZ)

Evening Groove by @Jernemies (inspired by "Blooming hope" by @Miloecute)

Flying Mice by @SepticDolphin (inspired by "flying" by @Pixlaid)

The Last One by @Tangerine (inspired by "The Last Unicorn (IsolationComp)" by @Spirithare)

A Dark and Empty Cathedral by @anthonyragus (inspired by "Church light" by @archir)

Wolvenpath by @LucidShadowDreamer (inspired by "winterforest" by @Eurns)

Whispers Of The Past by @RosesWolf (inspired by "Whispers of the past" by @aleha84)

Mechanical Doctor by @satanicpotatoe (inspired by "THE DOCTOR" by @gr8tree)

Endless Night by @ForgottenDawn (inspired by "The Starry Night" by @Silvertwilight)

Heal by @Jedo15 (inspired by "Heal" by @Carrion)

IT'S HIGH NOON by @TeffyD (inspired by "wild west" by @neonUFO)

A Flower For You by @NatahDN (inspired by "small world" by @Pammeenevaeh)

eventually by @dankwoomy (inspired by "Waiting for someone that never comes" by @Destri)

They're Watching Us by @Snikio (inspired by "Forest Has Eyes" by @Nocty-Nocturnus)

The Moon Returns by @iweihs (inspired by "return" by @HosekiRaito)

Aquanaut by @DigitalProdigy (inspired by "Aquanaut" by @Flooko)

FAN FAVOURITE

We received 15 votes - thanks to everyone who participated! After sifting out the tracks that placed in the top 20, there were two entries who scored 22 points each. However, one entry had a slightly higher distribution of rankings, which I've used to break this year's tie.

And this year's Fan Favourite winner is:

No Home, No Escape by @3manon (inspired by "Hole in The Sky" by @DatGamerboi)

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

A huge thank you to the four users who dedicated their time and energy to judging this year: @bossimusic, @AED4, @L-Mity and @Creeperforce24 !!

Thank you to @DrSaturn2 for creating the AIM 2025 promo art this year!

Thank you to every composer who turned out an entry or two and continue to show the versatility and talent of music that comes out of Newgrounds.

I WON; WHAT'S NEXT?

If you placed in the top 3, I will DM you in the next day or so with your Soundpaint gift card prizes.

For ALL winners, I will start downloading your tracks off Newgrounds to use in the album. However, if you do not have downloads enabled, I will reach out asking for one.

For EVERYONE, you can now update your entries or do what you want with them! However, if you are a winnerplease keep a copy of the original file you submitted for the compo, as this will be used for the compilation album. Minor changes are permitted, but the core track should remain the same. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about this!

REVIEWS?

You may have received a review from a judge, however, due to the large volume of entries, a number of them may not have reviews. If you're curious as to why you received a score and just want some feedback, you can reach out to a judge directly (and politely). I also take notes on every entry I judge, so I can share this feedback on request.

Thanks everyone for a great AIM 2025, and see you next year for AIM 2026!

Congrats to all the winners! This is one of my favorite AIMs - there were so many high quality submissions and excellent art interpretations.

Thank you to @Random-storykeeper for hosting another year and offering generous prizes! And thanks to the judges for their hard work.

I also must thank @LD-W for encouraging me to submit my track. Only a few hours before the deadline, I was still working on the final sections and wasn't totally satisfied, leaning toward not submitting it, but I shared it with him, and he assured me it's worth submitting :)

Congratulations to all the winners and participants.

It's incredible how many songs were shared, and it was a pleasure to discover new musicians on NG thanks to this contest.

Also, Thanks to the organizers and judges for keeping this event alive and giving us a context that allows us to surpass ourselves by adding parameters to music composition and production.

You guys are fantastic.

I've queued up 5 entries to post notes on so far based on my queue, but I'll add yours to my queue too! So far I'm just doing these on request, but I might do another comb-through later down the line and post notes/reviews for entries that haven't received any public feedback from a judge.

Last I checked from you, I heard a lifeless entry that was poorly mixed and humanised and that went nowhere, so I'd hold my tongue if I were you

I'd not only hold my tongue, but actually have an honest talk with those winners (especially LD-W), because having the longer music talk with them will show you the kind of life they're hoping to bring, and so much more. Sure, even they will tell you that there's flaws in their pieces that they need to overcome for their next attempts — but if so, the winners would be showing a hell of a lot more self awareness than what I'm seeing from you

You created a super unique track with very fun rhythms. There's no need to feel bad about your placement or feel the need to put others down.

A song can be objectively "good" or "bad", but that doesn't account for many other more important elements which go into making music. Sometimes, the context in which a song was made or the meaning it has to the creator (and fans) is far more valuable than a clear mix or an impressive arrangement. Simply the joy and excitement experienced while making it is worth more than the final product being "objectively good".

Contest results are always hard to swallow (for everyone not on the podium), but with a bit of grace, we brush off our pride and continue on with life. It's important to never forget that the act of creating music is fun and worth more than the final product or contest placement.

The lovely thing about AIM is that no matter where you place, it still gets you to create something new and original. Something which you wouldn't have made otherwise, and that's awesome!

Hope this helps, and have a lovely spooky month!

You allowed your opinion as I am allowed mine. You know freedom of speech and all. Seems the world was gone mad and people are ready to attack anyone whjo's opinion doesn't match their own.

All I said is that I didn't hear many "bangers" . Do you know what a "banger" even is? banger -an excellent or memorable song, especially one with an energetic beat that is good for dancing to.

I wasn't hearing many "dancable" tunes, which was all i was saying.

Whilst you said "I heard a lifeless entry that was poorly mixed and humanised and that went nowhere, so I'd hold my tongue if I were you" Which is a direct slur to me, whilst telling me to "hold my tongue" like someone talking down to a child. WTF dude.

I have the right to talk to you that way, as someone who sees someone disparaging others for their choices. You lost the right to be talked to kindly the minute you decided to have a go at other people for their entries. Even RSK said independently that it was out of order

Thanks for clarifying what you mean; aggressively-worded comments are generally insulting, especially when you follow up your first response with another direct response to a user who congratulated the winners and thought their tracks were “bangers”.

It’s great that you found music that helps you sleep, considering how important it is to get enough sleep every day. However, let’s not forget that the way we word things does matter. Sure you can have your free speech but at the end of the day, if you’re suddenly coming onto this thread months after this contest has wrapped up to throw a perceivably negative statement towards all the winners and people who enjoy their tracks, it makes you seem like a sore loser.

Please move this conversation elsewhere if you’re going to continue it @PapaDumTek @Troisnyx

So "you have the right" but i somehow "lost the right". Are we not as human beings all entitled to our opinions without someone else condemning one's right to give their own honest opinion? I am quite certain there is music you don't care for out there. Would I personally attack you for your opinion? No way. And now i am "behaing like a child" whilst you throw the toys out of the pram with a bee in your bonnet? I attacked NO ONE personally. Yet this is what i get from you towards me. Noice one. C'est la vie. Chacun voit midi à sa porte.

RSK CAUTIONED you for being a sore loser in this forum, which, given that you're keen on continuing this after her post, is proving her right, and quite frankly, is bannable

I have the right to caution you this way, to get you to stop behaving like a literal child, because I am a mod, and you kicking off like that is not looking good for you being on the forums or on audio. This is not the first time I'd have grilled someone this way, and it sure as hell won't be the last

And with regards to "personal opinions," I call bullshit. You saw fit, several months after the competition was over, to bitch and whine about how there were no bangers among the winners. The implications were clear. You wanted to bring others down because they got top spots, and you didn't. Everyone else could see it clear as day. I had encouraged you to go have a good honest talk with the winners, but you couldn't give two shits about it. The fact that RSK herself brought it up in late September, for fucks sake, shows me everything I need to know about this situation
