It's the same thing with the etherium and other similar cryptocurrencies during that NFT craze. Not only was it a sham just like AI, but it was also terrible for the planet just like AI.

Just wanna give my thoughts on this, but I believe that generative AI shouldn't be allowed on this site in any capacity even if it's used for background music or background drawings (why you wouldn't just use royalty free music or draw background elements yourself is beyond me). I just don't think there's any good reason as to why we should allow it on here other than as commentary or satire of gen AI (even then I feel like NG shouldn't be the place to upload this type of content). As far as I (and apparently others) was concerned, I was under the assumption that NG fully banned AI content and it's kind of a shame that it doesn't.

Technically, humans "steal" just as much as AI does. The difference is that we call it "inspiration", like how one may be "inspired" to draw in a certain style, or create an OC that's "inspired" by other properties. Or just choose to directly plagiarize/copy original sources.
I'm not an expert on how AI works, but I know all pieces of art must be inspired by something, and anything "original" always builds on existing ideas, usually combining multiple existing ideas at once.

I've also heard some people argue that the AI uses pattern recognition to generate a similar, but not directly traceable piece using just noise patterns, much like, but not identical to how a human can use references to draw certain poses, landscapes, etc.

The main difference is that the AI is mostly aimless, and often requires a human prompt, sometimes even multiple human-guided generations in the case of some Stable Diffusion generations, then at that point, the issue mainly becomes effort and potential for shovelware.
You could debate this point all you want, but I know that many people on here have different viewpoints, which includes anti-AI, neutral, maybe some pro-AI that otherwise respects NG's decision to not fully open the floodgates to AI slop, but I don't think we need to do that. At the end of the day, this site is Tom Fulp's to do whatever he wants with, and he's been following a lot of this debate and backlash, and still chose to keep the movie because he thinks the movie has just as much human element to it as AI, and that artists could apply a similar workflow to make something that might be better.

My personal stance is that I am not an anti-AI absolutist. I believe that in the future, a lot of extremely talented animators will be incorporating some level of AI tools into their workflows, and we'll have to be pragmatic about that.
...The problem here is that people want a well defined set of rules that clearly define what is ok and what isn't, and that is hard. This movie feels like dogshit to me but someone could have used a similar workflow to create something that felt really great, which would make me lean more towards keeping it....
...I think I would have been happier leaving it unpublished but I understand why it has merit as still being a human effort to tell a story. This movie isn't a stick of dynamite that is gonna kill anyone so I'm ok leaving it be and continuing to take things on a case-by-case basis.
