Welcome to Detonation Devastation

You play as an escaped prototype of a robotic kamikaze that was accidentally given sentience.

Escape the lab you were created in 9 levels throughout 2 buildings (worlds) with tons of cool mechanics.

You can throw grenades, dropkick unsuspecting scientists, and speed through levels.

In this game, every level has a secret, obtaining this secret on your current run and completing the level quickly gives you the elusive P rank!

Also the game has a banger soundtrack, with 7 tracks!

If the game is laggy, download on itch for like most platforms

Aw man, I am super conflicted about this game!

On one hand, I think the game is really cool! I love the energetic and goofy vibes with all sorts of weird music and sound effects, I love all the crazy movement techniques like sliding and grappling and bombing and so on, I love that the game is rather challenging right out the gate and demands mastery, and I love getting good at the courses for high grades! It's just a very neat schmovement platformer!

However, I just found it really, really hard to actually enjoy myself despite my best efforts!

*The performance is super stuttery and janky overall which leads to it just plain feeling weird to play.

*The physics are incredibly inconsistent, with my bombs jumps sometimes going nowhere and sometimes sending me to the moon, alongside having weird sudden breaks to my momentum during flight.

*The controls are bad with all sorts of dropped inputs and illogical things like not being able to slide under a gap if you're right next to the wall.

*The camera is way too zoomed in, making it difficult to see ahead, leading to an inability to sight-read the maps which means you need to go through a lot of tedious trial-and-error until you eventually memorize the map.

*This is just an opinion, but I feel like the game is a bit too focused on movement tech like sliding and grappling, and not on using bombs, you know, the thing the game is named after. Don't get me wrong as I like all the movement options, but part of me feels like maybe the game would be better if it singularly focused on just using bombs to get around.

Absolutely keep working at your craft because despite my issues, there is definitely something good buried here and this would totally be up my alley with some more polish!

I'm thinking about trying to have some better execution with the game at the moment, and I'll try to change some things based on what people have been saying, a lot of the criticism is pretty focused on certain things, so it shouldnt be too hard, and most of the bugs are due to how I coded the character, so I'm going to revamp some stuff in the next month or two. Thanks for the feedback, I'll try and change some stuff to make the gameplay, camera and other stuff better.

The game is quite laggy and that is a big problem when the game expects fast reactions.

Combining the lag with an extremely strict timer, makes simply reaching the end a chore, much less actually getting a good time. That is at least until you reach the second to last level and learn that you can slow down time and trivialize practically all of the challenge of getting a good time with it.

I do understand that having a strict time to beat is important in a game like this and I do not have a problem with that aspect. What I dislike about the timer is how it makes simply learning where you are supposed to go and to a lesser extent how to get there a pain.

Beyond that the game does not seem to keep track of, or otherwise care about the secrets. The level end screen will grade you based on if you did or did not find the secret, yet that grade does not seem to have any effect on the overall grade, as I've yet to see the overall grade differ from the time grade.

On a side note, looking for secrets in a game that gives you barely enough time to even explore can be quite frustrating, even more so when the secrets are seemingly completely pointless.

Overall for me the game has too many faults to feel good to play.

many lags

so many lags maaan

This gives me 2010s flash game vibes, which is a compliment. Although the camera is quite choppy when it follows, there doesn't seem to be an indicator on how long you have left before you explode, not even a sound sting or a bar and the tutorial is too overwhelming with how much it piles onto you. Also that slide jump thing, there's 3 parts of that thing spread across which means you have to stop at each point to read it which wrecks the flow needed and makes it much harder than it needs to be to get past. The sliding thing should've had all 3 sentences from the "press S" area with a diagram to show you what to do where so you can do it all in 1 go.
