BELATED CHRISTMAS UPDATE COMING SOON!

(maybe like 2 weeks or something idk we'll see)

This game has sudden loud noises, flickering lights, and potentially eyestraining visuals. Please take caution if you're sensitive to these elements

This is a small "prologue" to what I hope to be made into a full game later on. This originally started from a Itch.io gamejam known as Palette Lock, evident by the limited colors seen here.

Check out the Palette Lock games!

I then expanded it into the game on Newgrounds, and this is technically a psuedo-sequel to the original gamejam version, but not to any meaningful degree

(You can check out the original gamejam version on the Palette Lock page, just as a curiosity)

Ally, a young dragon, is slacking off while trying to keep away from Ms.Marrows' attention. Of course, this didn't work out, so now she has to do some grocery shopping . In this bite sized adventure, you'll explore the village to collect supplies, and potentially be sidetracked on the way...

There are numerous endings in the game, try to find them all!

A fair warning, this game may require some patience, repeated playthroughs, alongside backtracking to find new information.

Hmm, seems like it has some good potential! The game, despite a charming cartoonish look, has a bit of a amateurish look and feel due to some awkwardly sized assets and missing walls, and the overall gameplay is rather simplistic, but I like the story setup of an outsider kid living with their kindly substitute family figure: it really feels like it is setting up for a classic heartwarming grand adventure where the kid finds some friends amongst the world that bullies them and, I dunno, saves their village and then they finally fit in and all that happy stuff! I guess the main problem is that doesn't exist yet, but this feels like a decent prologue to that, so keep on truckin'!

SomeCrappyEdits responds:

Thanks for your review!

A lot of the gameplay assets were kept from the original gamejam, so some artwork (mainly BG) was scribbled in a week lol

If I go along with it, I'll try to improve the aesthetic more

I will say, there might be more than what you've seen, as the description and ending hints at

how long

SomeCrappyEdits responds:

There's about a hour of gameplay in total

Nice little game! It was fun, although ONE tiny problem i have is that i dont like how the backgrounds of the houses are pitch black, feel like there could have been more detail there, but considering you had to follow a pallette and do this quick for a special event, i dont mind it that much. Im also impressed how there are so many secret medals for such a short game, thats some good effort right there.

SomeCrappyEdits responds:

To be fair, this isn't the actual gamejam version, this is an expanded one. This most definitely was not made in that span lol. (though the houses were, but still)

But for the backgrounds, they are meant to be a darker brown color, but some setups may make it look pitch black so sorry about that.

If I do end up making a final game, I do plan to have more detailed interiors, so maybe that will help out with your criticism.

Oh hell ye, dat was fun! Although I did have to read all of the hints you left in comment replies to get, like, most of the game. I wouldn't've thought it was even THERE if not for all the secret anchievments, which I instinctively go to the comments to check for if I'm really struggling.

Past that it was great, although if not me replaying the start of the game many times I would'a not remebered some of the controls, like sprint.

Did see a coupla lil tiny small thingies that could be made better, like in the controls menu there's no indication that you have to press a button after pressing interact while hovering over a key, so I accidentally bound some buttons around in a really dumb way, and then accidentally canceled, had to navigate the menus all the way around to reset...

Also, when I first reached the area you call "paradise", then first my character just didn't spawn and I got kicked out to the previous zone as soon as the intro cutscene ended, and after that, the cutscene kept looping, dialouge starting again right after ending. Had'a refresh the tab to get out, but I had all progress saved so das nice. And I can see the bonus mode being frustrating to some, takes many attempts to learn where you're going and how to dodge the the the the the the the the the the the
aswell, the voicelines that play during that mode are hella loud and can't be turned down in audio settings; I also can't turn my computer's volume lower, since the music's too good to not listen to.

But ye no other than that rly good and cool and game! And woo-yay!

SomeCrappyEdits responds:

I've been getting a lot of issues from the Paradise intro room, I am doing one major update (and hopefully last) so I'll see if I can improve it

Same thing with the Rebind screen, I'll see what I can do.

As for the last boss' voicelines, due to a quirk of HTML exports specifically, I couldn't find a way to adjust SFX individually from the Music. I do have a Windows build that I intend to release alongside the final update (or a little after) so if you ever wanna try it again, you'll be able to adjust it freely.

Sorry for all the bugs and issues, but thanks for giving a good review regardless!

nice game many secrets medals dont find :(

SomeCrappyEdits responds:

One thing I will say is that you may have to replay again, and things may change during the normal gameplay that will help you progress

(big hint: you can get the secret on your first playthrough, so don't worry about gathering ingredients again until you find it, where you should know what to do by then)
