The only thing this guy should have done was disclose what elements were used with Ai if there was any used.


Given this was uploaded after the rule change... yeah that might land him in some hot water but I feel like his animation wasn't inherently made with Ai to begin with? At most, it just looks like it was used for tweening and that's it.


Otherwise this isn't the worst thing I've seen used with Ai. In fact the amount of what was used feels minimal at best.


Actually on that note, I agree we should be more critical of people who use Ai but... Is there any reason why we need to make this thread into a witch hunt?


It's one thing that to be critical but I am concerned that if we just start posting submissions just to give them zero star ratings that may end up causing this thread to get locked.

I really do not know enough about Treemovsal to lean one way or the other with him but honestly if people have that much of an issue with him that's probably the only course of action.


Nor do I care tbh. Far as I'm concerned he got the message I sent him so whether or not he does that for future submissions it's on him at that point.

I have been thinking about this all day honestly. I am trying to understand the thought-process of Tom & the team allowing this as I always try to do my best to remain reasonable despite my inclination to be reactionary sometimes. Like can anyone tell me how this is going to make this site better? Cause so far I have seen two different animations that blatantly used generative-ai slip through the judgment phase; one got daily 4th, whereas another got quite a bit of traffic. Can the staff explain to me & I guess others who might have the same stance as me why this decision was made? I cannot personally see the vision here, but I'm willing to hear it out at the very least. Tom & the team have done ALOT in making this site a cool place to be and done well with preservation of Flash via "Ruffle", but to me this current decision just feels like we're caving to something we really shouldn't be caving to, which makes the site feel way less punk in that regard. But maybe I'm missing something here, I can admit that. Right now though, it feels like Newgrounds is just sacrificing what made it special.

I can't speak for the staff, but my guess: Tom clearly wants this place to be where animation "breaks". AI is going to be a bigger and bigger part of professional and student workflows and he doesn't want to limit the site purely to amateurs. Pilots, professional's side projects, and student thesis films are likely to soon start including AI elements and work flows. Tom wants these to continue to be posted and wants to iron all this out before there's a witch hunt against an actual Adult Swim pitch or some poor kid posting his masters.

Well, if this is really one of those unfortunate things that has to stay, I wonder if we can have it where not only does an artist have to disclose if they use AI, but we can also have a switch to hide AI stuff if we don't wish to see it. And if the uploader lies, they get banned.

On one end, sure, you'd reduce seeing Ai if you don't want to see it, but then you'd have the Ai Bros demanding that they have full use of Ai all together and that's where you'd be asking for low quality content.


That being said I don't know if I would agree with that suggestion unless there's strict quality control measures in place ti make sure people actually put the effort into the merit of their work.

I like to see Newgrounds as a place for pure art. If you want to post AI, go somewhere else. That's why I'm here. If such a thing as AI were allowed, no matter how much it's banned from my feed for an option, I'd probably just give up art and leave altogether.

I'm afraid that a lot of people will just forget to label it. I think a good way to teach them would be to introduce a new rule that states: "if you use GenAI in your animation without disclosing where and how much you used it, the animation is removed".

That's fair but a problem still exists that we'd be opening the floodgates which could lead to broader problems.


I'm not sure of slippery slope or domino effect fallacies are the best to describe it. But what I am concerned about is from a practical point of view in how that kind of content is moderated and I don't feel Newgrounds has the resources to handle that, speaking from one user's point of view.

That's exactly the issue that made me choose to leave Deviantart for good. The Newgrounds community attract a very specific niche and that aspect makes it special. It will fade away if we openly allow the use of GenAI here. :| Newgrounds will lose its unique vibe. It'll become yet another art platform, just like all of the other art platforms out there.

I understand you, but I also assure you that this won't make anyone a winner. If AI is allowed, in the same way that users probably won't take the time to click on "THIS WORK HAS AI," others will simply lose motivation, and even the most veteran, the oldest, the most art-loving, the users with the most decades of experience on NG will simply leave. And just like that, there will be an empty, dead place left. And that will be the reality, I assure you. As mentioned, moderation will be simply IMPOSSIBLE. So I can only pray that it doesn't happen.


Yeah, there's a part of me that predicted this subconsciously as a possible outcome. I won't lie, I have been feeling inclined to leave as well, but it breaks my heart just to think about it. Been using this site since 13 years old without an account.
