I'm not exactly sure what you mean by minimal shading. I probably should've rephrased my question but I think I need to learn more of the technical side of shading, what techniques work to make it easier? what should I take into consideration about colour and where the light should be.

For the techniques, that is something you have to figure out yourself with practice.

Got recommended to check this thread out, so I thought I'd show WIP stuff of a current commission I'm working on, featuring RWBY characters. It's going to be two panels, but right now I can only show a couple sketches of the first drawing. It's supposed to be Penny Polendina, dressed in Weiss Schnee's outfit. For now the outfit is supposed to be tight against the body, with some rips in the clothing. A little stuck on how to draw it so I'm looking around for references, but if anyone got any tips they wanna share it'd be greatly appreciated! Ruby Rose is going to do stuff to her in the second one, but haven't come too far there yet.

I think the lineart looks really nice. The pose could maybe be a little more dynamic, spine more curve and less straight.

Hello! I'm new here. Been drawing a long time but still have trouble with lots of subjects. Any crits for my Harley Quinn WIP? I think her face is a bit wonky, didn't really use reference for that part. I started with a line drawing and then was like, I should paint over this! It's just a lot more work lol

There are some problems i can find, mostly being the shading on her clothes are too different from the shading on her body. The red parts from her clothes are too bright comparing to the rest. One strategy is to make a Hue/Saturation layer above everything and make it greyscale. This way you can verify if the brights are matching. The shading on her mask looks weird too, because its shadows are on the opposite side from where they should be according to her face shading.
Apart from that, the body shading is pretty good, congratulations!

The hands are too small, and the general body shape is that of a man, not woman.
The shulder have to be narrower and the hips wider.
The pose also lacks of sexyness, if that is what you want to achieve. I that case you have to exagerate the contrapposto.
References of some poledancers should help you fix it.
A good thign to do is paint the general light's and shadwos under the line before starting to actually paint it, in order to identify the main shapes.
A little update on this sketch, commissioner wanted the outfit waaaaaaay tighter. So I made it so. A little too much for my tastes, but they like it so I'm not gonna argue about it x) 
Progress on the second panel has gone smoothly as well, it's basically done by this point
And here are the sketches for the second panel, made a cum version for it. I've been getting some real good reception from the commissioner, it makes me happy. Can move on to coloring everything now.

When they're finished, it'd be in my art portal - or as a movie if I somehow wrangled a sound editor or VAs - but by then the ambiguity would be gone, so I suppose it's a moot point. I was just curious is all.
Not that it matters I suppose. Gonna start a new job by the end of the week, which is gonna put the kibosh on pretty much everything I've been drawing being done in any timely manner, but it was a fun ride.
