For me, it's this.
I know it's a video, but it's an artistic vision, and therefore counts as art.
I did somewhat keep up to date with the intriguing search for Subways of Your Mind, aka The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet, however that has been discovered now. I own it as a single on Vinyl which is pretty epic.
And while I wasn't around for it, the story behind Panchiko's D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L was very interesting, I highly recommend looking it up.
fuck you i was literally JUST gonna reply with the panchiko stuff
in all seriousness, the story was insanely cool to me, and as a result I found one of my all time favorite albums

for coming up with your OWN, I'd say use portmanteaus, take something you like, games, bands, objects that are close to your heart, hell, even other people's names, and combine them with your own name, or another grounded word
I came up with Cohelli by combining my nickname (Elli) with Coheed (of Coheed and Cambria, my favorite band)

For now we are doing the second season. So want to add more characters and I need voices.

Was scrolling the VA forums for a bit and found this gem, I'm definitely interested, im amateur, and haven't worked on any projects beyond just some small inside jokes between me and my friend ground, but I would love for this to be my debut! If you need a comical sounding VA, I'd love to work on it!

For me
1: nail my style down and really discover myself through drawing
2: nail down the basics and fundamentals (primarily linked to my third goal)
3: draw at LEAST ONCE every day until I fill my notebook (120 pages or so, I average around 2 pages per day)
4: Get a drawing tablet and finally do digital art on newgrounds
5: more newgrounds oriented, but get at least 50 followers, 100 posts on the BBS, and at least post 10 finished pieces

Honestly, when I started doing photography and getting in with the crowd, I kind of expected photographers to have the same attitude towards their craft and each other as artists do. Both make nice pictures and both skills are pretty grueling in their own ways to master and demand a lot of drive. And I honestly find the approach to both being similar in a lot of ways.
However, the people who do either one seem to be different in character. I find that artists are much more supportive of each other and way more chill. Like if there are people who are clearly just at the beginning of their journey, artists really show up and give respectful and constructive criticism. The responses to the wonky Frieren drawing with the tricky perspective come to mind.
I can't say that my experience around other photographers are as pleasant. I joined a photography discord server a few years ago and the level of pretentiousness and toxicity was genuinely insane. Lots of gatekeeping and criticism is usually not respectful or is dished out with anything between passive aggressiveness to straight up rudeness. Basically constructive criticism but made to feel like a put-down in tone. I've even met photographers irl who will be very quick to call other photographers "mid" behind their backs. Photographers seem to also be more morally fucked up where there's a good number of candid street photographers who think taking closeup pictures of strangers without their consent is a good idea and live by the phrase "don't ask for permission, ask for forgiveness". Like folks be taking candid pics of strangers in Japan even though it's against the law there. And the worst of the entire bunch are those that shoot only young women or homeless people. None of y'all are Vivian Maier bro.
Though that's not to say most photographers I've met are that way. Most just photograph their friends/models, landscapes, cityscapes, cars, pets, etc. There's a lot of cool ones I meet on the street who get excited and come up to ask about what I'm shooting on, trade IG accounts, etc. and I've made lasting friendships with a good number of them. Even when I started out, I met a lot of supportive people similar to the ones in the art community. It's just that there is kind of a non-trivial amount of jerks compared to the art community where I have yet to meet a single one personally.
You'd think that because photographers need gear and all that, they'd need the money to do this as a hobby or a better network to make this a viable job so there might be wealthier and probably snobbier people. But a lot of photographers I know are also regular people with a main job and do this to the side or are also making ends meet while being slightly uh ... generous with their money when it comes to buying more equipment. So I dunno. What gives?
Anyways, I just thought the difference between the two communities was interesting. I thought that they'd be similar in theory but that's obviously not the case. Curious to see what people think about why this might be and I also welcome your own experiences if you participate in both drawing and photography.
I think both sides should just slime each-other out and whoever emerges victorious is the better art form
In all seriousness, I believe that both are valid art forms, with different applications and uses, neither one replaces the need for the other. I will admit that a lot of photographers are your standardized pretentious douchebag that thinks he's better than everyone else cause he just wears a beret and listens to discordant jazz, but that doesn't quite mean that the art form itself isn't fully valid or beautiful
Yeah I agree. Though I don't think anybody here is arguing against photography's worth compared to drawing or vice versa. The state of the communities are a completely separate topic from their actual respective art forms.
Ok but a gang war between photographers and artists would be lowkey funny. My ass sitting in the middle between two soon-to-be divorced parents.

See this? This is the Options Menu for Mario Kart 64. To you PC players out there, yes this “Settings” menu is ridiculously bare bones! A lot of console games were like that back then. However, it doesn’t matter what type of Options menu is in the game, to me it’s like stumbling into a restricted zone in Chernobyl! Why? Look at that LAST option there! For a long time, I had such a phobia of accidentally pressing that, I’ve refused to access any “Options” or “Data” no matter the game! It’s been like that all the way until owning a GameCube and a PS2: two consoles that require a memory card to save which unfortunately has limited space.
Regardless, my fear was still realized when I still played with my N64. There were cases where for no reason, and cartridge would just DELETE its data upon turning it in. No clue why it happens: maybe memory corruption? I do remember my N64 randomly crashing on certain games… with like loud static screech that could give any kid nightmares!
Back when I was a littler kid and my uncle gave me his game boy color, I played ALOT of Pokemon red and Yellow, I remember that whenever you pressed the B button it would make text go faster, but wouldn't activate any of the in game dialogues or confirmations, so i'd spam B and hit the A button every 4th or 5th B spam to speed my way through parts of the game that were boring to me (win animations for trainer battles and such) this habit has stuck with me through EVERY Rpg i play

collab
For Pixel Day I'm planning on doing a content update for the game, which means I am accepting NEW submissions for the game!
If you don't what Wanted! is, it is an interactive character spotting game that slowly gets harder and harder as you keep playing. It is heavily ripped of- I mean inspired by the Super Mario Bros minigame with the same name. Give the game a try if you haven't already:
https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/965687
Your submissions will be the little character sprites that run around the bottom half of the screen during gameplay.
This update for the game will feature all your new submissions, harder round types, new medals and more "secret" game modes.
The rules are largely the same as last time, but I have rewritten some of them for better clarity. Please read even if you've already submitted before.
Rules
In order for the game to be fun and balanced, you must draw your sprite under some very specific rules. The rules have been written in full with images on the discord server, but here's a slightly watered down version for this thread:
Sorry there's so many rules, but it's all for the better of the actual game! If your sprite breaks too many of these rules I will ask you to adjust/redraw it. If you have any questions regarding these rules, please don't hesitate to ask!
Here's some example sprites featuring some Psychonauts characters:
You could also play the game to see more examples too.
Submitting:
I will be doing playtests for the new update in the discord server, so if that is something that interests you then please come and join :D
I'm gonna see if I can make a 3-LL1077 sprite for it! (creds to my girlfriend for this art, her rendition of my OC is the most canon design)

Before you go AWOL without inspecting the barracks, let me take you on a quick tour:
Please note this is NOT just another B/P club. I was debating making this group as I figured either people would make fun of it or accuse me of copying other clubs. Really, this is a place where the NG users can congregate and talk about anything, with the following rules:
- Anyone can post here, as long as they are in the Elite Guard or are genuinely interested in the Elite Guard.
- You must act like you are in the army. If you are not in the EG, act like a potential recruit.
- Respect your superior officers, just like in the army. If you're a private, show respect to a sergeant. You can joke around and everything, but at least keep with the whole theme and act like you are being insubordinate.
- Just have fun! I personally get a kick out of talking about the EG like this and referring to myself as "Sergeant EagleRock", so that's why this is here. Hopefully others will join in the fun. If not, well, I'm sure this thread will fade away soon enough.
Now report in, soldiers!
Future Recruit Cohelli: Approaching!
I am interested in joining the cause! I too love movies and games, and I shall bless everyone with my ball knowledge
also this is prolly gonna be my first time being super active in a BBS, so hopefully its fun! I've always loved the ideas of BBS's and I've only ever really experienced the /mu board on 4chan (don't worry, it was a week long phase, I'm alright in the head)
I'm hoping I can get semi popular on Newgrounds, mainly I just want to make some new friends, and create some cool stuff!
anyways, There's my introduction!

In other circles of the internet, I go by SemichaoticSadism.io, or SemichaoticSadism_io if periods aren't allowed. The history behind that name is truly not very complicated. I needed a username that was moderately creative, and definitely not taken. I think I succeeded.

For example, mine was something I came up with on the fly for pokemon go, and it's stuck ever since. (Yes I know, pretty boring) So how'd you come up with your online name?
Mines a pretty boring but simple story
I initially started with Rlliott, because I misspelled my name on a save file by fat-fingering R instead of E, i liked it and it stuck for a year, eventually i decided i wanted to change, and chose my supposed "forever username" Gooufey, my brother came up with it because he'd pronounce the word "goou-fey" i stuck with it for 3 years and after having the same "how is it spelt again?" convo when exchanging socials with anybody irl, I decided to pivot, and make a new one, which would end up being "Cohelli" a portmanteau of My actual irl Nickname "Elli" (prenounced El-ee) and a word I cant quite remember because I came up with it at 3AM.
I wrote it down in a book and a month later i found it, and began changing all of my stuff, newgrounds tho, I haven't been able to, I'm just waiting to get supporter status
TL;DR: It came to me in a dream
Ts is SO peak, I'm hoping I'll be done with my stuff in time!
Also, if anyone is looking for amateur (but free!) VA work for their pixel day project, I'd be happy to lend a hand! Just fling me a PM and I'll get on it
