Nothing on the Internet Archive was found, yet.

It gets worse... (UbiZomb) Posted January 8th, 2026 in Video Games

As Ubisoft are continuing to face a similar fate to Atari back in the 2010s (way before Wade Rosen saved both branches), the French conglomerate thought it would be a smart idea to close their 15 year old Halifax studio (formerly under the Longtail Studios brand), in which they've claimed that the closure had been made prior the unionisation, but netizens on sites like lemmy.world say otherwise.

Finding out this news really sucks, because I've listened to a theory that the trailer for Ubisoft's new Rayman game will drop sometime in March of this year.

Not only that, but the annex had led to a reduction of Canadian studios down from 4 to 3.

Exclusives are the utmost necessity in any gaming console. Where's the incentive to buy one console over the other if their library is the exact same? Miss me with that nebulous "one has more power" crap. The games look near-identical when played in realtime. If every console's library is the same, then you're just buying out of brand loyalty.

People who try to remind you that gaming is technically cheaper now than it's ever been are being intentionally dishonest. 20+ years ago we had demo discs, we had video game rentals, during the 5th thru early 7th gen the big publishers would occasionally reprint some of their bestsellers at a massive price drop, and also there were fewer stopgaps that only existed to discourage someone from simply lending their game out to a friend.

You never truly owned your physical games even when the entire thing was on cartridge or disc. The manuals always had a disclaimer that nobody read, stating that you're not allowed to back up, dump, or modify your game in any way that wasn't authorized by the publisher or console manufacturer. The manufacturers all just banked on the average consumer handling their physical media like a barbarian.

The third one had opened my eyes to the truth of physical media, not gonna lie.

Yeah, you're right on that one, considering that privately traded corporations can get away with less regulatory and public pressures, because their executives can make choices with more freedom.

Both open and closed companies can be great. Really depends on how that aspect is managed. Although I think when you end up with these massive AAA studios with shareholders who have no idea how games work wanting money money money all the time, I don't see how one can manage that without the shareholders just booting you off for not thinking like them enough. Does make me wonder if there's an in-between where you're open but only certain people can be shareholders...

After the events of Saudi Arabia taking over EA, I've asked a question through this post about what comes next for privatisation, so I decided to list these 4 corporations to give you guys a chance to say your suggestions.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

  1. Ubisoft Entertainment SA (I mean, the Guillemot family once planned to take the failing company off of the stock market alongside Tencent, but it may have been scrapped)
  2. Roblox Corporation (Oh my god, things would be way better if David Baszucki or other person had taken the platform off of the stock market, considering how much damage their IPO did to the platform)
  3. Atari SA/Atari Group (It's already doing fine with Wade Rosen as their CEO and biggest shareholder, but it would be nice if he did that, because I do not want to see a repeat of mistakes from the previous management, once he steps down from his role)
  4. Digital Bros S.p.A (I haven't got a say for that one)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you guys got your suggestion on what company should be privatised?

Does KoGaMa really deserve a comeback? Posted December 19th, 2025 in Video Games

With the hard-hitting effects of Roblox's nearly 6 year old IPO on the game platform market and the gaming community as a whole, It's time to answer the question that has been asked in the title of this post. ▲

Well...

On one hand, it could really benefit the platform, alongside its company, Multiverse ApS as there will be a mass influx of active users and to make matters better, they've already done decent updates like the in-game UI (which some people will call it the "Fornitification" of KoGaMa and I know who 👀).

But, on the other, it could result in rise of toxicity like on Roblox, server crashes, the fact that materials, alongside items at the store and worst of them all, a potential IPO that could be struck if management are greedy enough.

Besides all that shtick, I think KoGaMa should reemerge as an alternative that Latin Americans and European netizens played, when they were younger.

Plus, it's 15th anniversary is coming up, so the fanbase's transformation to a medium-sized one is mostly gonna be cool.

What do you guys think about that?

Rabbids on Roblox, in this economy? Posted December 18th, 2025 in Video Games

Despite not playing Roblox anymore (due to how Wall Street keeps pressuring David Baszucki to make weird decisions), I'm impress that Ubisoft themselves, out of all companies have seemingly understood what Roblox is truly about with their new game...

And looking back it, it most likely is a collaboration to coincide with The Takeover event that's currently happening.

As of right now, I'm unsure wherever I'd want to re-use a boss fight mechanic for the train level in my fangame idea, Bubsy '07 or not.

That two character mechanic, where you either choose to fight the creepy crawly thing or conduct the train, was intended for a mature (yet planned to be an official one, as I wasn't fully aware of Iger-era Disney's actions at the time) re-imagining of Epic Mickey's original plot called, Epic Toony (starring a personification of the Toon Disney logo).

Now, the real reason why I'm so unsure about re-using it for a Bubsy concept is because I'm worried that once my idea goes viral with that piece of scrapped content meant for another franchise, Disney might see this, take it down and then snab my idea away for their projects, just like what they did to an artist, 10 months ago.

Heck, they even took a fan-made Star Wars choreography for something else!

Any solution to this problem at all?
