A wonderful end to another wonderful year! Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all the game devs for closing out the year with some fun games, and with all the great community collabs that showcase just how much diverse talent this site has!

I see most of my favs in the top which is nice to see, but a few others I wanted to shout out were Strand Together from @VerilyFine (didn't think I could get surprised by another survivors-like!) and Scrapli from @ElWils (a stylish boss rush? aww, it's just what i wanted for christmas!)

As usual, you can check out the rest on my news post.

I'm currently hoping to compile a list of the best games of the year and put out a news post in a week or so, so stay tuned for that!

Congratulations to all the winners, and cheers to all the game devs for another fun month! Some quality games were chosen this month such as Sunnie Bell, but as usual, I want to give a shout-out to some overlooked ones:

TRY SHOOT ME from @Luis0413 was an excellent spectacle fighter that gave me vibes of ULTRAKILL, Hotline Miami and our very own Madness Series. I really love how it demands combo variety from the player!

Mapped by our ancestors from @adriendittrick was quite the unexpectedly epic puzzle adventure. You gotta set up some time to play and have patience with it, but oh the places you will go!

Wretched Lead from @Brainflick was a neat tower defense game which I really liked trying to optimize my defenses with the tetris block placement. Give it as much feedback as you can so the final version will grow up big and strong!

As always, you can check out the rest in my news post.

Oh, and help fund this Picayune Dreams plush so I can get my own!

Congrats to the winners and all the game devs for delivering a spooky amount of high-quality games! The biggest scare I had was trying to rank all of these absolute bangers: thinking I might've missed a great game gives me paranoia stronger than any ghost or ghoul could!

Glad to see that most of my favorites made it into the top, so no big complaints there (loved the hell out of Helltaker-clone Dungeon Divas which took my 1st place) but if I had to point out one I think got overlooked, it'd be the return of @bokononyossarian game Bleu Bayou from its initial demo back in 2020! It's shaping up to be a great boss-rush like Cuphead.

Feel free to check out the rest of my rankings here. October isn't over for me yet as I've got to go check out the rest of the Halloween entries, so away I go!

Another fantastic month of games! I was a bit late to get to the reviews (and I'm even still finishing writing all of them) but I had a blast as usual: congratulations to all the winners and all the game devs!

I'm glad to see a lot of my picks up in the top, but I'm really surprised to not see Catatattack! by @JalenBrah listed amongst them! As a beat-em-up fan who is very picky and hard to please, I was seriously impressed with the bombastic energy and the deep mechanics, meaning it's got both style and substance in abundance. It's come a long way from its first demo way back in 2022: *sniff* they grow up so fast! Go check it out!

A couple of others I definitely want to give some more attention to are Drowning Cross by @origamiherogames for being a very authentic feeling old-school point-n-click adventure, Prune & Milo by @GrizzlyCogs for being a neat turn-based-Zelda-puzzle-adventure hybrid, and 3-Bit Explorer by @Fiddleling for being another entry into the fantastic Bit Explorer series!

Find more interesting picks in my news post and let me know your own!

Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to all the game devs for another excellent spread of games this month! I'm glad to see that all of my top five picks were winners this month: guess I'm not as much of an old fuddy-duddy contrarian as I thought!

Certainly got a lot of entries from the GMTK "Loop" Game Jam this month! As much as I try to not be as critical of game jam entries because they are made in such a short time limit compared to other submissions, when it comes to games like BOOTLOOP and Nine to Five Forever being so good as to stand above everything else despite that, it gets confusing to say the least! These devs gotta have some sort of hyperbolic time chamber, right?

While it wasn't first place, my personal favorite entry for this month had to be A Dog That Plays Basketball by @LakenDaCoda. A lot of joke/gag games use the fact that they are a joke game to not take it seriously and deliver a clunky mess, but this one is not only funny, but a legit good game beyond that with interesting twists, charming dialogue and characters, and actual puzzle mechanics!

As usual, you can find my rankings here if you're interested!

Congratulations to all the winners, and many thanks to all the game devs for another month packed with neat games! I absolutely agree that Pet.Net deserves a prize for not only nailing those classic NeoPets/Tamagotchi vibes, but having some great gameplay (the warioware game within it is great enough standalone to win a prize!) I'm glad to see it appreciated.

As Tom said, we had two fantastic SHMUPs this month for fans of those (like me), and they both accomplish their goals in different ways, with Cattle Crisis being a highly-condensed and explosive adrenaline rush and Newgrounds Virtuattack having a great sense of journey: so many interesting worlds, enemies, bosses and unlockables to see!

We also had a bunch of incredible demos for games that are either already on Steam or are coming out soon, so getcha wallets out for these ones: they're worth it! (or at least wishlist them)

As usual, you can find the rest in my news post!

Response to: Best of June 2025! Posted July 14th, 2025 in NG News

Another great month of games, and another congratulations to all the game devs! This month didn't have as many games as usual, but there were still some incredible entries, and I was glad for the break since I was busy checking out all the games from the Low Poly Day as well as the Treasure Hunt!

I see plenty of my favorites in the top picks, but something I wanted to give a shout out to is the sequel to Jeri Tower by @succojones which was one of my absolute favorites of yesteryear. It's pretty hard though, so maybe play the first one before moving onto the more recent sequel!

As said, I've been going through all the nominees for the Treasure Hunt, and there are some incredible finds in there like Rolly by @Davbo37. But one that I really enjoyed was the Ghoulscrapers Prototype by @ShortCakeCafe, which was a bit funny because the game is no longer a prototype, but fully released on Steam! I purchased it and played it as a bonus for this month's video, so check it out and consider throwing them 5 bux!

Oh, and 500 CALIBER CONTRACTZ by @BryceBGameDev absolutely rocks my socks and is also on Steam, so consider wishlisting it to keep it on your radar!

Congratulations to all the indie game devs for another round of great games! I was glad to have a bit of a break after last month's record-setting quantity of games: let me have some time to check out all the Steam Next Fest demos (sleep? ah, don't need it)! Of course, this month was just as exciting as any month in terms of quality, especially with the latest demo for Gappy's Adventure and a new sequel to Waha's Robot Daze!

The games that were picked for the top were great and I'm in agreement with them, but don't forget to check out some of the ones that slipped through like these and more mentioned in my news post:

Anyway, can't rest for long as it's back to the grind in checking out the latest Treasure Hunt and Low Poly Day content!

Response to: Best of April 2025! Posted May 14th, 2025 in NG News

Y'all are trying to kill me! There were so many game entries (50!) for the best of the month that I had to split my video in two to get it to render and upload without crashing!

Anyway, congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you to all the game devs for delivering a bunch of games that were not only high in quantity, but quality as well! As usual, I've got my favorites on my news post here if you want to check 'em out.

In particular, I want to highlight a bunch of incredibly promising demos that came out this month: a lot of them were so good that they are already in my top 10, and I'd love for them to get feedback to get bigger and better for their eventual release!

Now to get back to checking out the rest of the Flash Forward Jam Entries...

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all the game devs for delivering more great games this month! I'm very surprised but pleased to see Driven Wild at the top: it's nice to see that simple arcade games are still appreciated! I'm glad that my top pick of Swordius will be getting a prize too! @Yword has really got a knack for making these stylish sword games and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. Waxweaver was also a very ambitious undertaking and it's nice to see it on Steam now, so add it to your library pronto.

As usual, I've got the rest of my picks on my news post. Here are a few promising games to check out that haven't been mentioned yet, give 'em some feedback so that they grow big and strong:

Congratulations to all the winners, and many thanks to all the game devs for delivering another great month of games! There weren't as many entries this month (which was nice since it gives me a bit of a break) but man were there some absolutely high-quality games in there!

I'm very glad to see that both AGUJERO and FIDEOS from @Culoextremo got into the top: there were both incredible experiences! I try not to feature the same developer twice in my personal top so I wasn't sure what I should pick from the two! They also worked on Mírame which was one of my absolute favorites from last year: go back and check that out if you have the time!

I can definitely agree with Hatsune Miku Bomb Squad from @mksfbirdup being in the top: that game really surprised me with how addictive and fun its bite-size puzzles could be!

One game that I was really surprised to not see in the top this little number from @sillylittlepyro, so be sure to not miss out!

As usual, you can find more in my news post here.

Another fantastic month of games! Congratulations to all the winners and all the game devs for delivering such fun. This month was an absolute flood of around 40 games to play, most likely due to Pixel Day, which I've got to get back to playing the rest of the entries! Woof, just can't catch a break!

As usual, feel free to check out my rankings on my news post here. I definitely agree with most of the winners this month, but don't sleep on Cash Clicker which revolutionized clicker games for me, and Cronela's Mansion was a pretty impressive GBC point-n-click that I think got passed over! It was bloody hard to narrow down the top 10 and honorable mentions this month: just so much quality content!

Response to: Best of December 2024! Posted January 14th, 2025 in NG News

Another great month of games! Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to the devs for some great stuff: I definitely find myself agreeing with a lot of the top picks! This month we only had around 30 entries instead of the usual 40: glad to have me a bit of a holiday break!

This month we got a lot of multiplayer games from a GDevelop Game Jam, which is always tricky for me since I play games by the time the initial crowd of players has dissipated. I was able to play most of them solo, but in order to play Robots Out of Time which is strictly coop, @TharosTheDragon reached out to play together and we turned it into a special guest appearance on the show! Admittedly, it didn't work out the best since the game was super laggy, but hey, still a fun time!

Don't forget to check out some of these other demos and playtests that were featured this month below so they can gather up as much feedback as possible to become big and strong in the near future!

Response to: Best of November 2024! Posted December 14th, 2024 in NG News

Congratulations to all the winners and to all the game devs in general for another great month of games! This month we had a more modest and manageable amount of games (around 30) so I consider that a bit of a holiday vacation from the huge floods we've been getting lately! Still, there were certainly some excellent games which I've highlighted in my top 10 news post as usual, so check 'em out!

As highlighted above, my top entry for the month was SpellWheel from @adayofjoy, a demo so cool I had to go to Steam and immediately pick up the full version. Here's a link if you're interested!

In other news: it wasn't featured this month but Tidying Up from @Intrapath and @Bleak-Creep just got a new update with its Secrets of the Sewers expansion! It introduces a lot of new and mind-bending puzzle mechanics to rack your brains while still having the cute vibes from before, so if you were a fan of the previous but wanted more challenge like me, be sure to check it out!

Congratulations to all the winners!

Anzu Castle Gracula sure scared me off initially with its hardcore difficulty, but somehow lured me back in over and over to give it another shot, making a bit more progress each time. It's put a spell on me and I just can't get away: now that's scary!

MAERE II is a nice evolution of the MAERE series that I enjoyed a lot for its great spooky atmosphere and gameplay. I still think it has room to grow, so I'm looking forward to the third version next Halloween: by then, I think it could usurp FNAF!

Olivia The Demon Slayer was a solid arcade SHMUP experience: it didn't catch my interest immediately, but once I started playing on hard mode, it bared its fangs and things got exciting!

Response to: Best of October 2024! Posted November 14th, 2024 in NG News

Another fantastic month of games, and congratulations to all the game developers! Y'all are going nuts as this is the third month in a row that we've featured around 40 games! You're wearing me out with this flood of gaming goodness: don't you all need to be back in school or something to give me a break? Ah, what the heck, keep 'em coming, haha!

As mentioned, my favorite for the month was Ritual Bound by @prsaseta: though technically it was released in September, it was an incredibly spooky experience appropriate for October!

If you're still looking for spooky Halloween experiences, also consider checking out these titles!

And finally, we had a lot of demos come out this month that are looking for feedback to help their eventual full releases, so consider checking these out too!

Response to: Best of September 2024! Posted October 14th, 2024 in NG News

Another great month of games, and congratulations to all of the winners! Man, after August had such a huge load of games, I thought September was gonna give me a break since most of y'all would be back in school: guess I thought wrong because we had even more games than ever at around 40+ entries! Granted, some of those entries were games from all the way back in 2016: heck of a surprise to see this one pop up!

At 10/14/24 11:23 AM, TomFulp wrote:You may have noticed art collab gallery viewers weren’t included in the game nominees this month. There’s been a tendency for these to beat out games in the monthly awards and we feel that it is discouraging to game developers, as the gallery viewers aren’t technically games. It would be nice to find a place for them in the monthly awards but it’s also difficult to award prize money to entries that have so many participants.

I hear ya! I always have difficulty figuring out where to rank art galleries: I like to give an honorable mention to some of them that get really creative, such as the Bug Collab, but I typically don't put them into my top 10 since they aren't necessarily games, per se.

At 10/14/24 11:28 AM, Kolumbo wrote:pager didn't win!? i demand a recount

I gotcha covered as it won first place in my Top 10!

I'm really looking forward to that update: a Madness Cafe Management game is a great idea! Feel free to take any of my ideas I left in my review, or do whatever you think is best!

Response to: Best of August 2024! Posted September 14th, 2024 in NG News

Woo, another great month of games! Congratulations to all of the game devs who won and all the others for bringing us great games to play: this month really caught me off-guard with the sheer amount of entries that kept coming in, but I guess it makes sense with all the cool game jams that were popping off!

The top picks are pretty solid, but I'm happy to see that @Ferociter and his latest game will be getting a small prize based off of my rankings! I'm surprised to see both their game as well as @MarsUnderground didn't get a lot of attention considering they were my top 2, but that's what I'm here for, to hopefully get some eyes on stuff that might've been missed!

As a beat-em-up fan, I felt blessed to have two entries this month! I'm glad to see that Punch Monkey made it to the top, but don't forget to check out this one from @BrianGatorComic if you're starving for more!

Moving on from that: the new monthly voting system was very neat to use with its new organizational tools that help sort and narrow down the choices, and the new scheduling change is nice as well as it means less of that awkwardness with last-minute entries coming in and being unsure where the break-off point is.

While we're changing things up, one piece of feedback I'd like to offer would be to let the main games page allow you to see the game's short description when you hover over them: it's a bit weird that it's the only place where you can't see that description when it's shown practically everywhere else! I've made a little game out of it in my reviews where I see if I can guess what the game is by thumbnail alone which is fun, but it'd be nice to have more information!

Another great month of games! Congratulations to all of the game devs, and congratulations to the Treasure Hunt winners that have finally had their games featured after being lost in the cracks for so long!

As usual, I've got my top 10 featured in my news post. I definitely agree with the picks here, but don't miss out of checking these games too (and thanks to Tom for highlighting them in the runner-ups!)

Speaking of the Treasure Hunt, I found this hidden gem from @MoonMoleGames that I'm surprised wasn't featured last month. Maybe consider checking it out if you like twin-stick shooters like Enter the Gungeon!

Response to: Best of June 2024! Posted July 7th, 2024 in NG News

Congratulations to all of the winners, and many thanks to the many game devs for delivering another great month of games! You guys had some solid picks for the top, and I was honored to be featured in a question in the Trivial Trivia game (with so many questions to go through, I feel lucky to have encountered it in the first place!)

As said, while they were only runners-up this month, I definitely want to highlight my top three which you should go and play:

As usual, if you wanna see the rest of my top picks, feel free to check out my news post! There's a lot of cool games and especially cool demos/alphas that could use some feedback so that they grow up big and strong!

Oh, and if you haven't seen it, I also did a little feature about the Treasure Hunt event, highlighting my favorite games from there! Hoping we get to see the final results of that soon: I've submitted my scores to @SplatterDash and am waiting with bated breath!

As usual I've got my own rankings on my news page, but I did want to bring to attention that we got a lot of very promising demos/alphas this month: if you can, give these ones below a try and donate as much feedback as you can so that they can grow big and strong!

Congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you very much to all the devs for delivering a bunch of great games this month as usual!

This month was definitely a doozy (40 entries!) and very difficult for me to judge as loads of the games were game jams or demos which always makes me unsure how to evaluate them equally (but boy are they fun nonetheless!)

Looking at your picks, I'm very happy to see Homecoming get some recognition at the top as I was unsure how people would feel considering how short, experimental and movie-like it is, and I'm also happy to see 2-Bit Explorer get some love as I feel it and its prequel 1-Bit Explorer were slept on, being very impressively deep and content-rich games!

As usual, I've got my top 10 and honorable mentions on my news page here if you want to check them out: so many quality games!

No time to rest, though: now I gotta get back and check out all those Flash Forward entries!

Response to: Best of March 2024! Posted April 7th, 2024 in NG News

Congratulations to all of the winners and all the game devs that made some great games this month!

While the amount of entries was less than usual (which I was grateful for as it lets me relax a bit, haha) the quality was through the roof with entries like Rabbit Hole from @ShortCakeCafe and Oblivion Eve from @smartalloc: very glad to see these games in the top. It's early in the year so I might be presumptuous in saying so, but I'd say these are so good that they're aren't just best of the month: they're solid candidates for best of year!

You can see it in my newspost, but definitely consider checking out Feathered Escape from @yokoboko and Lumera Numbera's PUZZLE POP from @tonyfinale: these games were my 3rd and 4th place and offer a tight precision platformer and fantastic arcade puzzler experience, respectively!

I'm glad to see the Botanica Demo from @nulledwine was well-received: be sure to check it out as since it's still in an early stage, it needs all the feedback it can to bloom into a beautiful end product!

Congratulations to all the game devs for delivering another great month of games! I was really worried I wouldn't be able to do the reviews this month as I'm recovering from wisdom teeth surgery, but somehow I made it through the big list in time (I just might be a bit more quiet and less energetic in the recording, haha)

Really happy to see Driftmania from @Frenchie14 make the top list: that game is so addictive and fun despite being so simple, just like many of the classic Newgrounds games of yesteryear!

Also ever since I switched up my review process to check out all of the featured games of the month, it's always interesting to see what games get featured outta nowhere, considering they were submitted many months or years ago, like the ones below:

Congratulations to all of the game devs for another round of great games this month! Certainly starting the new year off strong with Pixel Day, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming Flash Forward Jam!

As much as I try to represent the common layman in my reviews, it's always amusing when I'm so far off the mark: seeing Dungeon Deli from @EvanMMO take first place was quite the surprise, and I bet gave their team the sweet taste of revenge considering how rough I was on it! Sigh, it ain't the first time I thought a game was a bit rough yet people loved it: I'll forever be sorry for underestimating Friday Night Funkin and Dead Estate! Well, at least Kiwiman XTREME from @Jack got in the top listing as I thought, so there's something!

If you're interested in seeing my top picks (and how wrong they can be), they're in my news post as usual!

Oh, and consider checking out these demos from @Ludokultur and @Asvegren, they're featured in the Steam NextFest event and could use some feedback to help them build for final release!

Oh, and don't feel bad @ChimeraDev as I still love this one from you! It's a winner in my book!

Another wonderful month of games to close out the year: congratulations to all of the game devs for finishing strong! As usual, I've got my own top 10 list over on my news page, so feel free to take a gander, though I think the general vote has picked some strong games already!

As much as I'd like to rest on my laurels, now I gotta get right into adding these games onto the best games of the year list and get to nominations! Look forward to it!

It's been a heck of a trip going down memory lane and replaying all of the games of the year: fun to revisit a lot of previous favorites, and also slap myself for missing or underrating some real gems! It's tough to try and rank the games but I'm doing my best: there's so many interesting games that I'd loved to shout out but might be too niche for best of the year, and it's so easy to fall into traps like how 'big' games with lots of content can overshadow incredibly memorable short/small games. Hope everyone looks forward to the results!

Here's some more cool games that I've been replaying and pondering on recently:

Congratulations to all of the game devs who delivered another round of solid games this month! I had a blast with Infinite Tree Pinball (once I got used to the controls, ha) and Underage Driving blew my mind with that perspective change mechanic, so I'm glad to see those up there! Likewise, I was really impressed with both art collabs (Creepypasta and Fishing) this month as they went above and beyond in creating entire games to showcase their art: really creative stuff!

My top pick this month had to be Lost in Lampyrid Fog from @Ferociter, who really has a knack for creating these cryptic puzzle adventures! As for the rest of my picks, you can always check them out on my news post.

While we're talking about games, don't forget to show some love to the recent release of Picayune Dreams from @Stepford, @Andyl4nd and @milkypossum! At just 5 bucks, it's a steal, and the vibes are a breath of fresh air in this overcrowded world of Survivors-likes! I've already bought it and beaten it once and you better believe I'm going in for more runs!

Congratulations to all of the game developers for another great month of games! Just when I thought I could relax, the floodgates opened and delivered us 40 great games: I guess the Halloween spirit really brings it out of people!

There were some delightfully spooky games released this month! The top 5 here has already mentioned the fantastic Bleek and Sofia the Witch, but don't miss these:

While we're on recommendations, this is twice now that @EufrasioNuclear has amazed me and stole my number one slot with their games, and I've been surprised to not see them in the top here: last time it was Paraiso, and this time it was Mírame. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

In addition, while they may not have been released this month, making them ineligible for the running, there were some pretty cool games on the featured list that were very appropriate for the season! Make sure to take a peek at:

You can find everything else on my news page as usual!
