want to join this webring?
No worries. I'd be down to join the webring. I'll make a post in that thread as well.
I'd probably do the textures a little differently nowadays but I'm still really happy with how the mesh turned out. This was my first time trying to recreate something in 3D from reference images that weren't perfectly front or side facing (like a character turnaround). I'm still using it as my desktop background.

Thanks! There's a button on the landing page (bottom left) and on the about page (scroll down a little) but I'll also put it here:

I just started some big updates on my Neocities site this week. Right now it'll only look good on 1080p desktop displays (Windows usually set the scale of the whole UI to 150% on laptops so you might have to zoom out if you're on one). Gotta look into whether I can get stuff to change the zoom/scale automatically.
I also made an open-source JS comic reader if you want to host comics on Neocities or similar platforms.
IN A.D. 2025 COLLAB WAS BEGINNING
This sounds like fun, I gotta make something for this
This is a mixed-media piece that combines a photo of a physical model (which I've posted before), Blender, and Krita. I'm currently using a slightly edited photo of the monitor model (shown in the old post) on my Neocities website but I wanted to make some changes to it. This new art post goes into detail on why I wanted to change things and how I made the new images.
Getting back to making one-off models to get some more Blender-ing practice in.
The idea for Spellguns started with trying to figure out a way to cram a magazine of elemental gems onto a spellbook to make loading them more efficient. It eventually evolved into gun-shaped housings for the books. I definitely want to make a few more of these. The next one is gonna be a break-action shotgun sorta thing.
The spellbooks I'm using for these are all from my homebrew tabletop system. Spellbooks are combat-focused magic items while staffs are more for utility magic. I might also do some staff models later down the line since I've got some funny ideas for a few of them.
Getting back to the chain lightning model, this started out as couple of sketches you can see below.

I felt the first one was too small for what the spell did so I tried going for something more rocket launcher/minigun sized. I originally wanted this spellgun to be an over-the-shoulder thing like an RPG but then I realized that would put the cylinder right next to the user's head which probably isn't a good idea. There also used to be a shield on the front that I later scrapped because it obscured too much of the model.

I ended up recycling the support structure behind the shield into the sights on the final version.
Sign me up! I've also done something kinda similar with friends before (but we were able to see the previous pages).
I almost forgot I had one of these threads. Time to dust it off and pick up where I left off.
I'd like to think I've gotten at least a little better at drawing and 3D-ing since my last posts here. I've also since gotten into making/painting physical models. I'll post some highlights from each of those mediums:
Drawing
This Slayer drawing is the most recent one of this bunch and definitely has the cleanest inking. I picked a tricky perspective and some things are probably a bit messed up geometry/anatomy-wise.
I'm still pretty happy with how this one turned out. It's also a lot less insane perspective-wise!
Not too sure how I feel about this one. It's also the oldest of this batch of NG posts. The posing is kinda stiff and the anatomy could probably use some work.
And now we'll move on to some miscellaneous sketches and whatnot.

This sketch is also featured in the Slayer drawing's post. This is based off of an illustration by Gustave Dore, Death on the Pale Horse. I'd like to go back to properly ink/shade this later. I wanna try replicating the shading from Dore's work but idk if I'll be able to achieve the look.

These are some pretty rough character design sketches for a comic. Anatomy is all kinds of messed up in places and the general scale is also kinda wonky.

And here are some random face sketches.
3D
These are a few models I threw together (including a new Hydro model from earlier) for use in a YouTube series going over the stuff I've been working on each month. The textures for these models were all hand-painted in Krita. There's a plugin I've been meaning to try out called Ucupaint that gives Blender much more powerful texture painting features.
These are a couple of monsters I made for a Doom mod I'm working on.
Physical Models
These models are all scratchbuilds made from various bits of junk glued together. It's always fun to make them. I started seeing a lot of cool stuff like this on YT and wanted to give it a swing myself. I have a video going over the build process of The Plague Machine you can watch here:
It's more of a slideshow since I only took still pictures of the thing while I was making it (I didn't actually intend on making a video out of this originally). I do have a better setup for recording proper footage now so the next scratchbuild I make (which is gonna be some kind big robot scorpion thing) should have a more engaging video. That probably won't be till early next year.
There are some other things I've done since my last post in this thread three years ago but I'm gonna leave it at that for now. I'll try to keep the thread from fossilizing again in the future xd
Finished this prog metal sorta song late last night. It was made using the default MIDI instruments so I can use it in a Doom mod.
Always cool to see another person who works in a bunch of different mediums. I mostly stick to 3D modelling (plus a little bit of animation) and physical model painting (mostly scratchbuilt models but also Transformers figures) but I also do some digital art.
This is the latest thing I made with Blender, some newly texture painted models for some YT stuff I started recently. I painted all the textures in Krita, which involved exporting the UV layout. I can go over how I did that in a bit more detail if there's interest.

I could probably simplify the geometry on these models. They used to have subdiv/smooth modifiers on them which is why they have some extraneous loops/whatnot.
Do you work in 3D modeling/animation/etc.? Do you want to learn how to? Do you just want to talk about cool 3D art/animation? You've come to the right place. I've seen some pretty cool 3D work on NG but I haven't really seen any threads on it. I was going to put this on the Art Forum initially but I also wanted to talk animation. Hell, depending on how technical you get with things this could also include programming (e.g. making plugins).
Feel free to share your work, feedback, resources, or just cool stuff you've found in the world of 3D.
I work mostly in Blender so the resources I share will largely be for that program. I'd be interested to see if people here use other software like Maya, ZBrush, SFM, or even CAD stuff. I used FreeCAD to model something to print a while ago but I've mostly been using Blender for that recently.

Happy belated Pico Day! I made a new Tankman action figure that I finished up around 11 last night. That's technically still on time, right? :^)
Here's my art submission, just finished painting it the other day:

There is A Trogdor Board game, but you probably already knew that
I need to get the Expando deck when I get the chance. Also, a Stinkoman themed card game would be really cool!
I also read that there's a new Dangeresque themed board game in the works right now. Excited to see where that goes!
Man, that reminds me I haven't played the new Stinkoman levels they added a while back.
I didn't realize they were working on a Dangeresque board game on top of the video game. Definitely looking forward to it.
Here's some WIP pics of the scratchbuilt model I made for Robot Day. Ignore the mess in the background :^)
This was the final result for reference:

Resurrecting this thread to post a new short story I wrote for a writing contest I'm doing with some friends. Each story in the contest has to include a cursed watch that can grant you something instantly, costing you your time somehow. I'll post the first couple of paragraphs here, the rest can found on my website.
Three days. Three days without water to die from dehydration. Three days until the dust storm would settle down. Three days until rescue. Three days until Doctor Adrian Ajax, or perhaps what was left of him, would be found by another living soul. Three horrid days until this Schroedinger’s Box would be opened. For three days Doctor Ajax would have to stay holed up in his tent, a tent that seemed to have only a few days left in it. A large gash in the tent’s side had been haphazardly patched up with several strips of duct tape and the adhesive was slowly giving out. His cell phone had just enough charge left in it for him to make an emergency call for rescue. The last of his water was stuck in his car, some unknowable distance from his tent. Venturing out into the dust storm would surely spell certain death. Trapped in a polyester prison, Doctor Adrian Ajax had no choice but to wait.
Doctor Ajax was a professor of anthropology at The University of Arizona. Several months prior he heard of an abandoned colonial settlement rumored to exist deep within the Sonoran Desert. Doctor Ajax had always longed for a discovery to claim for himself, something that would forever leave his mark on history. The man was no stranger to strange rabbit holes. He was known throughout the department to spend months on end holed up in his house looking into lost cities and undiscovered ruins spawned from even the most scant hearsay. It had become a sort of tradition for the freshmen to come up with a new rumor at the end of the year so he would grade their final assignments more leniently. For about a week after the end of the spring semester, Doctor Ajax was hard at work cross-referencing old regional maps and satellite photos. Finally, he pinpointed the town’s most likely location and began preparing for his voyage out into the sandy wastes.

I also discovered they have the Cool Games for Attractive People season one on there. I had no idea that was on Steam. Played them on the Wii back when they first came out.
Turns out the point 'n click halloween game they had on the site before/itch is also on steam, but also isn't out yet.

Seems Telltale (or whatever company absorbed Telltale's assets when they went under) is losing the license to SBCG4AP so if you wanted to get it, it's either now or key resale sites.

It's here, it's here, it's fina-lily here! It's a really for real sbemail, not an April Fools thing!

In '22, Tom released this, Custom Profile Picture Shapes!, their most accomplished feature. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Square," a pfp shape so stylish most people probably don't pay attention to the geometry! But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of four corners and the importance of 90 degree bends, it's also a personal statement about the site itself!
Here're a few other renders I did before I got to the final product above.

Tried out Dikko's toon shader with the Hydro model. I like how this looks, but I also wanna try making a new model that's actually made with the shader in mind. I'm also thinking of adding some more modelled detail to the Hydro model since it lost a lot of detail from axing the textures.
Working with cartoony character models would also make it way easier to make other assets for animations and whatnot unlike with the low-res textures. It also means I can use Grease Pencil for faces, etc. like I did here instead of modeling them out or using different textures like I had before.
I used Outline Helper for the outline on the head. Below is a video showing off the toon shader.
I can't remember the last time I wrote poetry. This was a lot of fun. I kinda feel like I wrote song lyrics more than poetry, but I guess since there's no music behind it, it's a poem :^). For some background on what I wrote, I recently moved into an apartment for uni that doesn't have AC. At home I had gotten used to blasting the AC pretty much all the time, so it's been hell here.
