Thanks for that, it's been cool to see it get 12k likes! We had around 9,530 Supporters when I made the recap post and are currently at 9,632.

It's sad to see the haters come out in response to posts like that. It's weird to me that people will say stuff like "bad business model" and "companies shouldn't run on charity" when like... Isn't the whole problem that every service and product is getting increasingly shitty to chase down that extra dollar?

I'm not entirely unfamiliar with Newgrounds. My troublesome brothers dragged my ass into it, because they were browsing the 'Assassin' series, especially the Pokemon one's (man, I'm old...). Hoping 2026 will be better, no matter how dire the world is. What's important is that we have each other, and that's something the outside world can never take away from us.

Summary

This was our second year of major internal changes, without a lot to show for it on the front end, although we did get UK age verification out the door. I’m hoping for more noteworthy progress in 2026, although we still have some humps to get over first.

Ruffle / Flash Preservation Status

NG remained a Ruffle sponsor throughout 2025. Ruffle is the open source Flash emulator we use to keep Flash content running in the browser.

Ruffle continued to improve throughout the year, both in terms of performance and supporting more games. Big thanks to @olskoo for testing (and sometimes even fixing) a lot of games, resulting in a lot more games switching to Ruffle this year!

We’ll be hosting another Flash Forward event in 2026 and the deadline is already on the calendar as April 20th. If you have a copy of Flash, consider making a new Flash game or interactive movie to participate! We’ll kick off prize fundraising in the new year.

Monthly Prizes

We managed to maintain our prize pool this year and even expanded it, thanks to generous recurring sponsors like @RobTop (Geometry Dash), @MassiveMonster (Cult of the Lamb), @PuffballsUnited (Among Us), @TeamTrivial, @53xy83457 and @River.

Newgrounds distributed over $40,000 to the community in 2025, largely from events and monthly prizes.

End of 2025 Supporter Status

We’re ending the year with ~9,500 active Supporters, having received a bump from UK age verification. NG continues to run at a growing loss that we can hopefully shrink in 2026.

The last remaining ads on Newgrounds appear on A-rated movies and games, however their performance will continue to decline as stricter age verification expands to more territories. We intend to phase out these ads, one of many things that would have already happened if more people had become Supporters over the past decade!

2025 Recap Posts

For the reveal trailer, @PhantomArcade organized the dream team of @FunniGuy342, @brekkist, @DegoDraws, @bb-panzu, @TerminalRepo and @DozenRahyz.

Rift of the NecroDancer is a spinoff of Crypt of the NecroDancer, a game that like FNF has a lot of roots on Newgrounds. This news brought me back to when we hosted a Crypt of the NecroDancer art contest (check out the winners) and reading that post from 2015 was a trip down memory lane.

So I’m gonna reflect on that post.

First, it opens with news about the launch of “phase one” of our voting system overhaul. This update changed it so you needed an account to vote and could only vote on each entry once, as opposed to the old system where you could vote on the same thing daily. I note that more updates are coming, such as vote and review editing, as well as merging the review score and the vote score into a single score. All of that has since happened!

Next, I note some complications we are having with HTML5 games. This was a big transition period for us because Flash was on the way out and we had to introduce flexibility to our project system, with all the accommodations needed for HTML5 games as well as movies in various video formats, which also needed to be processed for the web after being uploaded.

With that out of the way, I proceed to thank everyone for participating in Robot Day, an event that is still happening every year thanks to @MindChamber’s dedication.

After that I provide some background on the NecroDancer team and their games on NG. I joke, “Play 'em quick before all the browsers remove Flash! j/k (I hope)”

We knew Flash was on the way out but an end date hadn’t been announced. It would be another five years before Flash was removed from browsers but the good news is that every single game in that post is still running thanks to Ruffle, an open source Flash emulator project started by @Mike that is now maintained by a bunch of brilliant devs. NG has been a sponsor from the start!

The post includes other NecroDancer notes such as concept art by @jouste, who still actively posts on NG, as well voice work by @headphoamz, aka Elspeth Eastman, who went on to voice Tristana in League of Legends and my kids and I would sometimes see her on Disney XD’s Player Select.

The post ends with a plug for our Steam curator page, which still exists, although I should update it more often.

So much history to unpack in one little post! I think 2015 was part of a “forgotten NG decade” for many but it’s a reminder that NG didn’t stop just because people weren’t paying attention; we kept plugging away and incrementally improving. These past two years have been a slog with all the internal overhauls but hopefully in the future we will look back and think, “those were the years that made everything afterwards possible.”

Thursday Update: Speaking of internal overhauls, yesterday the ratings filters were broken for a bunch of people and this morning reacts and favoriting are broken for everyone. I'll post an update here when reacts and faves are fixed!
