getting tagged in this post lead to me playing Scary Kid's Adventure (i'll probably check out the sequel later)

i actually really liked it despite its nature and it makes me actually quite happy that applico's an inspiration for anything in the first place. a friend said "it looks like a pilotredsun video that got turned into a game". using scratch makes me wanna rip my hair out but yeah in the right hands its surprisingly more capable then one'd think

one recommendation is to use turbowarp packager for putting a game on newgrounds (turbowarp.org, load game in, file -> package, customize to your liking and export as zip) because its really customizable [allows for a fullscreen and pause button, a loading graphic, etc.], loads 10x faster, and i think doesnt have that weird question mark glitch. turbowarp's also just really great for developnig in general, like 75% of applico's development was done using it (while still making sure it's scratch compatible, since i released for both scratch and NG). the NG addon allows for medals n scoreboards n stuff too if theres any reason for you to wanna use those. good luck out there!!

im certainly not the #1 most knowledgable on this matter but i definitely think hes gotten a lot better treatment since roughly around year of luigi. hes basically nearly as popular as mario because of how iconic the duo is so its practically lying to say he's fallen into mario's shadow

as for in-universe... honestly kinda depends on what game youre playing

he seems to be treated fairly OK in mainline?

mario and luigi superstar saga... jesus christ that man gets treated awful (his little spotlight segments are maybe the compensation for that). the only characters off the top of my head that know his name and dont call him 'mr greenie' / 'green mario' / something along those lines are the two star dudes in the first beanbean section where youre getting the 100 beanbean coins, and the border guys with the mario brothers themed jumping segment.

even Bowser calls him "Greenie" and refuses to remember iirc.

it is quite funny when both Mario and Luigi get the equal treatment of both only being referred to by color (fawful is an example of this, he calls them like red fink and green fink or something like that)

idk about the other m&l games

first two paper mario games hes treated OK-ish and does a little bit of stuff, ttyd has him telling the story about the waffle kingdom and princess eclair but i havent finished that game. i do remember he was a bit exaggerative so maybe the dislike from some of his party members is a tad deserved in certain regards. i remember one (i think a bob-omb) freaking out about him wearing a dress in gamecube TTYD and that line getting adjusted to support him wearing that dress in the 2024 remake

i also havent played the rest of that series so i can't speak on that [god i need to do that some time]

he does kinda eternally suffer that shadow because of his last name being... mario. Mario Mario and Luigi Mario. genuinely awful. but past stuff like that hes sorta freed himself from that shadow cast on him by his little brother all-around even down to in-universe treatment being better
